Notre médaillon ovale en marbre blanc est un portrait présumé d’Alexandre le Grand.
Ce joli bas-relief est réalisé selon les canons de représentation néo-classiques de l’époque. Le traitement des boucles de la chevelure à l’antique est tout particulièrement remarquable.
Ce médaillon a été sans doute inspiré par une paire de médaillons similaires de Filippo Collino aujourd’hui conservés à Piazzatta Reale à Turin représentant Alexandre le Grand et sa mère Olympia.

Our oval white marble medallion is a presumed portrait of Alexander the Great. This beautiful bas-relief is made according to the neo-classical canons of representation of the time. Particularly noteworthy is the antique treatment of curls in the hair.
This medallion was undoubtedly inspired by a pair of similar medallions by Filippo Collino now kept at Piazzatta Reale in Turin depicting Alexander the Great and his mother Olympia.
