Our warrior is depicted in the same way.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 14.2pt; font-size: 10pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The horse is made after the model of the Antique equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius in the Campidoglio in Rome where it was moved in 1538\u00a0; this is the unique equestrian sculpture from Antique Rome which has been preserved.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 14.2pt; font-size: 10pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 14.2pt; font-size: 10pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Born in Florence in 1577, Fanelli moved to Genoa by 1605 and worked<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 14.2pt; font-size: 10pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">there until at least 1630. In 1634 he received a court pension from King Charles I<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 14.2pt; font-size: 10pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">in London, where he had probably been working since 1632. His sons Virgilio,<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 14.2pt; font-size: 10pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Pietro, and Giovanni Battista were born in Genoa prior to his departure, and they<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 14.2pt; font-size: 10pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">all became important sculptors who would eventually set up and run workshops as<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 14.2pt; font-size: 10pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">far afield as England, Italy and Spain, often continuing to cast bronzes from the<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 14.2pt; font-size: 10pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">models created by their father. Fanelli was highly regarded by the principal art<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 14.2pt; font-size: 10pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">patrons of Genoa and was almost certainly acquainted with Anthony Van Dyck<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 14.2pt; font-size: 10pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">before that painter relocated to London. Indeed it is believed that Van Dyck or his<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 14.2pt; font-size: 10pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">contacts may have been instrumental in bringing Fanelli to the attention of King<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 14.2pt; font-size: 10pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Charles I.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 14.2pt; font-size: 10pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Fanelli stayed in England until at least 1641 where he was highly<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 14.2pt; font-size: 10pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">celebrated, only reappearing in Genoa in 1657. Fanelli \u00e9tait hautement consid\u00e9r\u00e9 par ses pairs artistes \u00e0 G\u00eanes, et il est fort probable qu\u2019il ait rencontr\u00e9 le peintre Anthony Van Dyck avant que celui-ci d\u00e9m\u00e9nage \u00e0 Londres.
