Nota: Dans le Nouveau Testament, seul le texte de Jean (IV, 1-30) raconte l’\u00e9pisode de la rencontre de J\u00e9sus et de la Samaritaine. Selon la tradition du christianisme orthodoxe, cette femme est nomm\u00e9e \u00abPhotine la Samaritaine \u00bb. Comme, se reposant pr\u00e8s d’un puits, J\u00e9sus lui demande \u00e0 boire, la Samaritaine s’\u00e9tonne qu’il ose, lui, un Juif, lui demander de l’eau : les Juifs m\u00e9prisaient les Samaritains et ne leur adressaient pas la parole. J\u00e9sus lui r\u00e9pond que l’eau qu’elle puise n’\u00e9tanche pas la soif, mais que l’eau vive qu’il donne devient jaillissante et que quiconque en boit n’aura plus jamais soif.<\/p>\n

According to the tradition of Orthodox Christianity, this woman is called \u00ab\u00a0Photine the Samaritan\u00a0\u00bb. As, resting near a well, Jesus asks her for a drink, the Samaritan woman is astonished that he dares, he, a Jew, to ask her for water: the Jews despised the Samaritans and did not speak to them. Jesus replies that the water that she draws does not quench thirst, but that the living water that he gives becomes gushing and that whoever drinks from it will never be thirsty again.<\/em>
