Elle pr\u00e9sente un important d\u00e9cor d\u2019architecture en bas-relief et des montants \u00e0 cannelures et chapiteaux ioniques.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Le corps sup\u00e9rieur<\/strong><br \/>\nDeux vantaux sculpt\u00e9s d\u2019architectures en perspectives ouvrent le meuble encadr\u00e9s par trois pilastres cannel\u00e9s aux chapiteaux ioniques.<br \/>\nChaque vantail repr\u00e9sente deux arcades plein-cintre dont la corniche et la base trahissent un point de fuite central. De m\u00eame, les lignes du pavement sont pour l\u2019artisan l\u2019occasion d\u2019accentuer cet effet de profondeur. Les vo\u00fbtes de ces arcades laissent toutefois penser que le point de fuite se trouve au niveau de la poign\u00e9e, entre ces deux reliefs alors compl\u00e9mentaires.<br \/>\nLa ceinture est travaill\u00e9e \u00e9l\u00e9gamment par des moulures, dont la centrale est \u00e0 doucine. Pas de tiroirs comme il est habituel, en revanche, depuis l\u2019int\u00e9rieur du corps sup\u00e9rieur est accessible un compartiment secret s\u2019ouvrant au moyen de deux charni\u00e8res. Il occupe l\u2019ensemble de la ceinture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Le corps inf\u00e9rieur<\/strong><br \/>\nDeux vantaux identiques \u00e0 ceux du corps sup\u00e9rieur sont encadr\u00e9s par trois pilastres doriques cannel\u00e9s. La base du meuble ouvre par deux grands tiroirs.<br \/>\n<strong>Les c\u00f4t\u00e9s<\/strong> pr\u00e9sentent eux aussi des panneaux travaill\u00e9s en bas-reliefs figurant la m\u00eame vue d\u2019architecture en perspective. Notons que les pilastres faisant angles sont r\u00e9unis aux pilastres de fa\u00e7ade par leurs chapiteaux. Ainsi sur les c\u00f4t\u00e9s de cette armoire peut-on observer la partie lat\u00e9rale des volutes caract\u00e9ristiques de l\u2019ordre ionique.<\/p>\n<p>Cette armoire de Palais est surmont\u00e9e par une corniche d\u00e9bordante reposant sur trois consoles en fa\u00e7ade et deux sur chaque c\u00f4t\u00e9. Plac\u00e9es dans la continuit\u00e9 des pilastres, les consoles sont orn\u00e9es en surface par un motif de feuille \u00e9panouie.<\/p>\n<p>Au XVe si\u00e8cle l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat majeur pour l\u2019architecture d\u2019une part et pour les \u00e9tudes sur la perspective d\u2019autre part influe sur le go\u00fbt des commanditaires.<br \/>\nLes publications au milieu du XVe si\u00e8cle des recherches men\u00e9es par les grands th\u00e9oriciens Leon Battista Alberti ou Filippo Brunelleschi ont une influence majeure sur les arts.<br \/>\nCeci apparait dans le domaine de la peinture o\u00f9 de nombreux b\u00e2timents sont souvent ins\u00e9r\u00e9s quelque soit le sujet et parfois devenant eux-m\u00eames le sujet principal. Cela apparait aussi dans le mobilier avec la r\u00e9alisation de cr\u00e9dences, cabinets ou armoires nourri par un vocabulaire architectonique jusqu\u2019\u00e0 \u00e9voquer de v\u00e9ritables facades palatiales.<br \/>\nCette puissante armoire aux panneaux \u00e0 la fois sobres et sophistiqu\u00e9s repr\u00e9sentant des arcades, rappelle imm\u00e9diatement cette fascination propre \u00e0 la Renaissance. Dans les arts d\u00e9coratifs ces sujets de trompe-l\u2019oeil \u00e9taient majoritairement r\u00e9alis\u00e9s en marqueterie. La conception d\u2019une vue d\u2019architecture en perspective, sculpt\u00e9e dans une seule planche de bois massif, \u00e9tait bien plus difficile \u00e0 accomplir et n\u00e9cessitait une tr\u00e8s grande ma\u00eetrise de la technique et du mat\u00e9riau. Ainsi notre cabinet est \u00e0 la fois tr\u00e8s inhabituel et un rare t\u00e9moignage de son \u00e9poque.<br \/>\nTandis que les coffres \u00e9taient destin\u00e9s \u00e0 abriter le linge de ses propri\u00e9taires, il \u00e9tait en revanche plus courant que les armoires renferment armes, objets de collection et de curiosit\u00e9.<br \/>\n<strong>Le sens des proportions et des volumes de cette armoire est oeuvre d\u2019un v\u00e9ritable artiste-architecte. L\u2019unit\u00e9 du d\u00e9cor, son \u00e9l\u00e9gance et son raffinement r\u00e9pondent \u00e0 la commande d\u2019un m\u00e9c\u00e8ne amateur de g\u00e9om\u00e9trie et d\u2019architecture.<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>A rare carved walnut wardrobe opening with four door-leaves and two drawers in the lower part. The doors bear architectural views in low reliefs, fluted pilasters and Ionic capitals.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Upper Body<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Two door-leaves with carved architectural perspectives open the wardrobe framed by three fluted pilasters with Ionic capitals.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Each door-leaf depict two semi-circular arcades whose cornice and base shows a central vanishing point. Likewise the pavement\u2019s lines act for the artisan as a way to create depth. The vaulting instead leads us to think the vanishing point has to be situated where the handle is, between the two complementaries reliefs.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>The elegant moulded belt hides an internal secret space, accessible through a moveable plank in the upper body.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Lower Body<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Two door-leaves identical to those of the upper body framed by three fluted pilasters with Doric capitals. The base of the wardrobe opens with two large drawers.<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>The sides<\/strong> also bear panels depicting architectural perspectives. The external pilasters share their Ionic capital with the facade\u2019s pilasters. Thus we can observe on the wardrobe\u2019s sides the capital\u2019s lateral parts with the elegant volute specific to the Ionic order.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This palace wardrobe is topped by an overlapping cornice standing on three consoles for the facade and two consoles on each sides. Placed right above the pilasters each console are adorned by fully expanded leaves.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>During the 15th century a major interest for architecture and perspective studies arises and influences patrons tastes. The work of great theorists such as Leon Battista Alberti or Filippo Brunelleschi, are published from the mififteenth century onwards and has a great impact on the arts.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>It can be seen in the field of paintings where numerous buildings are included in diverse subjects and even becoming the main subject of paintings. It also characteristic of the furnishing with the making of credenza, cabinets or wardrobes using architectonical vocabulary, progressively evoking real palaces facades.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>This important wardrobe with panels sober and sophisticated depicting arcades reminds us this infatuation typical of the Renaissance. In the decorative arts these subjects were mainly made in marquetry. It was far more difficult to carve those views in a solid wood plank as on our wardrobe, requiring a high degree ability to master technic and material. Hence this Renaissance palace carved walnut wardrobe is very unusual and a rare testimony of this era.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>While chests were meant to store clothes and linen wardrobes were usually containing weapons and curious and collectable items.<\/em><br \/>\n<strong><em>The sense of proportions and volumes shining through this palace wardrobe has to be the achievement of a true artist-architect.
