D\u00e8s 1430, la sculpture connait un renouvellement stylistique profond et qui se poursuivra jusqu\u2019en 1530, il s\u2019agit du gothique dit tardif. Cette production est notamment marqu\u00e9e par une recherche de r\u00e9alisme.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Cette importante Vierge \u00e0 l\u2019Enfant est rev\u00eatue d\u2019une longue robe rouge \u00e0 l\u2019encolure dor\u00e9e. Une fine ceinture dor\u00e9e marque sa taille.\u00a0<\/p>\n
De sa main droite, elle retient un pan de son lourd manteau bleu au revers vert. De profonds plis en V en creusent le drap\u00e9 tandis que s\u2019\u00e9talent g\u00e9n\u00e9reusement les plis de sa robe au niveau du sol, comme il \u00e9tait alors d\u2019usage.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Son beau visage \u00e0 l\u2019ovale plein, aux yeux en amande, au nez droit et long, aux l\u00e8vres fermes au model\u00e9 d\u00e9licat et au petit menton rond est emprunt d\u2019une grande douceur. Son regard lointain lui donne n\u00e9anmoins l\u2019air pensif. Son front haut et large est ceint d\u2019une couronne \u00e0 fleurons qui maintient un voile. Un pan de ce dernier passe devant le buste de la Vierge, en diagonal. Elle le maintient de sa main gauche, sous l\u2019Enfant J\u00e9sus. Son abondante chevelure blonde ondoyante se r\u00e9pand sur ses \u00e9paules et dans son dos.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Elle est repr\u00e9sent\u00e9e sans hanchement. Dans une pose tr\u00e8s r\u00e9aliste, son buste l\u00e9g\u00e8rement renvers\u00e9 en raison du poids de l\u2019Enfant qu\u2019elle porte sur son bras gauche.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Son enfant, \u00e0 la chevelure aux m\u00e8ches bien dessin\u00e9es est nu. L\u2019air poupin, les joues rehauss\u00e9es de rouge, le regard vif, il tient dans sa main droite, un globe et de l\u2019autre, il joue avec son petit pied. Ce geste anecdotique conf\u00e8re \u00e0 cette sculpture une grande vitalit\u00e9.<\/p>\n
Cette oeuvre remarquable est un tr\u00e8s bel exemple de sculpture des ateliers souabes des derni\u00e8res d\u00e9cennies du XVe si\u00e8cle. Elle en pr\u00e9sente tous les \u00e9l\u00e9ments stylistiques caract\u00e9ristiques : une silhouette robuste au ventre fort et hautement ceintur\u00e9, un visage plein au menton marqu\u00e9, un drap\u00e9 abondant aux plis anguleux mais encore, une grande pr\u00e9sence physique accentu\u00e9e par la polychromie qui restitue les d\u00e9tails anatomiques.<\/p>\n

As soon as 1430, sculpture starts a major and deep stylistic evolution than will unfold over a century, until around 1530. We call it the International Gothic. This production is particularly interested in a quest for realism.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n This important Virgin and Child wears a long red dress with a round gilded neckline. A delicate golden belt cinches her waist.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n With her right hand she holds her heavy blue coat lined with green. Deep V-shaped pleats emphasise the draping while the bottom of her dress flares and spreads on the floor like it was common at the time.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n Her beautiful oval face with almond-shaped eyes, straight long nose, determined lips carved with dexterity and her round chin, all bring a great softness to the Virgin. Her gazing look gives her a pensive attitude. Her high and large forehead is crowned with a coronet that secures a veil on her lush blond hair spreading on her shoulders and her back. Noteworthy is the detail of how she uses her veil to carry her child.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n She is depicted without contraposto, in a realistic posture with her bust slightly tilted towards the back because of the weight of the child she carries.\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n Her child is naked and presents carefully designed curls and a doll-like face. His cheeks are highlighted in red, his look is voluntary and in his right hand he holds an orb. With his left hand he plays with his foot. An anecdotic gesture that animates the sculpture with great vitality.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n This remarkable work is a very fine example of the production of Swabian workshops in the last decades of the 15th century.
