Ce d\u00e9cor pr\u00e9sente une grande maitrise des techniques de laque en cr\u00e9ant de tr\u00e8s nombreuses variations de motifs en changeant l\u2019agencement des diff\u00e9rents \u00e9l\u00e9ments. L\u2019int\u00e9rieur est doubl\u00e9 en papier sur lequel a \u00e9t\u00e9 coll\u00e9 des morceaux de feuille d\u2019or.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Il s\u2019agit de bo\u00eetes le plus souvent octogonales contenant les coquillages peints utilis\u00e9s dans le jeu de kai awase (association de coquillages). Ces bo\u00eetes contiennent deux jeux de cent quatre-vingts coquillages, chacun orn\u00e9 d&rsquo;une peinture diff\u00e9rente. Le jeu consiste \u00e0 r\u00e9unir deux coquilles formant un po\u00e8me. Ce jeu est cr\u00e9\u00e9 par le po\u00e8te Matsuo Bash\u014d (1644-1694), n\u00e9 Matsuo Kinsaku (\u677e\u5c3e \u91d1\u4f5c), et connu \u00e0 la fin de sa vie sous le nom de Matsuo Ch\u016bemon Munefusa.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Le mon repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 sur les kaioke est un Hikiryomon, un motif repr\u00e9sentant un dragon, \u00ab ryo \u00bb signifiant \u00ab dragon \u00bb. Il peut \u00e9galement s&rsquo;\u00e9crire Hikiryo, Hikiryu, Hikiryo, Hikiryo et Hikiyo, et il existe diverses th\u00e9ories sur son origine. Il s&rsquo;agit notamment de lignes simplement dessin\u00e9es et de celles repr\u00e9sentant le soleil ou la lune, mais la th\u00e9orie la plus largement accept\u00e9e est qu&rsquo;elles proviennent du Livre des Mutations chinois. Le kimono \u00e0 cr\u00eate unique du clan Nitta, le kimono \u00e0 double cr\u00eate du clan Ashikaga et le kimono \u00e0 triple cr\u00eate du clan Miura sont c\u00e9l\u00e8bres et \u00e9taient souvent utilis\u00e9s par leurs descendants, ce qui en fait des armoiries familiales courantes parmi les samoura\u00efs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>S\u2019il est particuli\u00e8rement connu jusqu\u2019en Occident pour ses hokku, Matsuo Bash\u014d consid\u00e9rait plus int\u00e9ressant et prestigieux de participer au haikai ou renku une forme de po\u00e9sie participative consistant \u00e0 lier des fragments de po\u00e8mes ou \u00e0 se r\u00e9unir entre po\u00e8tes afin de cr\u00e9er des vers \u00e0 tour de r\u00f4les afin de cr\u00e9er tous ensemble un po\u00e8me coh\u00e9rent. Il publie le Kai Oi ou Jeu du Coquillage en 1672, compilant \u00e9galement les oeuvres d\u2019autres po\u00e8tes de l\u2019\u00e9cole Teitoku. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019une anthologie po\u00e9tique dans laquelle chaque haiku est suivi d&rsquo;un commentaire critique qu&rsquo;il r\u00e9dige en tant qu&rsquo;arbitre d&rsquo;un concours. Il s&rsquo;agit du plus ancien livre connu de Bash\u014d et le seul qu&rsquo;il a publi\u00e9 de son nom. This decoration showcases a high level of lacquer artistry, with numerous variations in patterns achieved by altering the arrangement of the different elements.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The interior is lined with paper, to which fragments of gold leaf have been applied.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These are typically octagonal boxes used to store painted shells for the game of kai-awase (shell matching). Each box contains two sets of 180 shells, each one adorned with a unique painting. The goal of the game is to match two shells that together form a poem. This poetic game was created by Matsuo Bash\u014d (1644\u20131694), born Matsuo Kinsaku (\u677e\u5c3e \u91d1\u4f5c), later known as Matsuo Ch\u016bemon Munefusa.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The mon represented on the kaioke is a Hikiryomon, a motif featuring a dragon \u2014 the word \u201cryo\u201d meaning \u201cdragon.\u201d It may also be written as Hikiryo, Hikiryu, Hikiyo, among others, and several theories exist regarding its origin. Some suggest it derives from simple line drawings, or from representations of the sun or moon. However, the most widely accepted theory is that it originates from the Chinese Book of Changes (I Ching). Variations of the crest\u2014single, double, or triple\u2014were used by clans such as the Nitta, Ashikaga, and Miura, and became commonly used samurai family crests.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Although Matsuo Bash\u014d is best known in the West for his hokku (early haiku), he himself considered haikai or renku\u2014a collaborative poetic form where poets alternately compose linked verses\u2014as more prestigious and creatively engaging. In 1672, he published Kai \u014ci (The Shell Game), an anthology that also includes works from other poets of the Teitoku school. Each haiku in the collection is followed by a critical commentary written by Bash\u014d in his role as judge for a poetry contest.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This is the earliest known book by Bash\u014d and the only one he published under his real name. The collection includes 60 haiku by 36 poets, including two by Bash\u014d himself.
