Fils d\u2019orfe\u0300vre, forme\u0301 par les meilleurs orfe\u0300vres parisiens (Biennais, Fauconnier), initie\u0301\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">au modelage par le sculpteur Bosio et au dessi<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">n par le peintre Gros, il suit aussi les cours a\u0300 l\u2019Ecole des\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">Beaux-arts de Paris. De sa formation initiale il garde le gou\u0302t pour les de\u0301tails et la pre\u0301cision. A cette e\u0301poque, de\u0301ja\u0300, il fre\u0301quente assidu\u0302ment la Me\u0301nagerie du Museum du Jardin des Plantes pour y dessiner\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">l\u2019animal \u00ab ad<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">-vivum \u00bb. Le Salon de 1833\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">marque sa conse\u0301cration avec le ce\u0301le\u0300bre\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua;font-style: italic\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua; font-style: italic;\">Lion au serpent<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">, pie\u0300ce monumentale que le roi lui commande en bronze. Il jouit de\u0301sormais de la protection de la famille royale, illustre\u0301e notamment par la commande\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">d\u2019un important surtout de table par Ferdinand Philippe d\u2019Orle\u0301ans (1834<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">-1839), dont certaines pie\u0300ces sont pre\u0301sente\u0301es au Salon de 1837 qui pourtant les refuse. A la suite de ce refus Barye ne pre\u0301sente plus\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">aucune pie\u0300ce au Salon jusqu\u2019en 1850. Pend<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">ant cette pe\u0301riode toutefois les commandes affluent de la part de collectionneurs prestigieux pour lesquels Antoine-Louis Barye conc\u0327oit ses plus beaux mode\u0300les de\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">bronzes d\u2019ornement qui re\u0301ve\u0300lent un ve\u0301ritable talent de de\u0301corateur, puissant et inventif. Parall<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">e\u0300lement, toujours extre\u0302ment soucieux de la qualite\u0301 de ses bronzes, il ouvre a\u0300 la me\u0302me e\u0301poque sa propre fonderie\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">s\u2019occupant a\u0300 la fois de la fabrication et de la commercialisation de ses \u0153uvres jusqu\u2019a\u0300 son association avec l\u2019industriel\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">Emile Martin en 1845. Peu a\u0300 peu la famille\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">constitue une collection d\u2019\u0153uvres de Barye, dont faisait partie notre sculpture jusqu\u2019a\u0300 aujourd\u2019hui. Quant a\u0300 l\u2019exemplaire nume\u0301rote\u0301 4, actuellement conserve\u0301 au Metropolitan Museum of art de New York<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">(10.133.1), il rele\u0300ve de\u0301ja\u0300 de la deux<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">ie\u0300me version puisqu\u2019il pre\u0301sente une bouche ferme\u0301e. Il permet ce faisant d\u2019attester qu\u2019il n\u2019y a pas eu plus de trois exemplaires de la premie\u0300re version, ce qui fait de notre sculpture\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">une pie\u0300ce tout a\u0300 fait exceptionnelle.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 6\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">En plus de sa rarete\u0301, cette pie\u0300ce\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">est aussi remarquable par l\u2019originalite\u0301 de sa composition et la perfection de\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;font-family: Perpetua\" data-mce-style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: Perpetua;\">sa facture.
