In 1791, as a tribute to the writer who died there in 1778, the Quai de Seine was renamed Quai Voltaire.<br \/>\nIn the 19th and 20th centuries, many artists and intellectuals lived on rue du Bac, de Beaune, de Lille, des Saints-P\u00e8res, de l&#8217;Universit\u00e9, de Verneuil or quai Voltaire.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #cca146;\">Juliette R\u00e9camier, Charles Baudelaire, Amedeo Modigliani, Alexandre Dumas, Jean-Auguste Ingres, Max Ernst, Jacques Lacan, Rudolf Nureyev, Misia Sert, Vivant-Denon<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #cca146;\">Oscar Wilde<\/span> all frequented the area. Even today, it&#8217;s not unusual to come across artists, writers, composers and actors.<\/p>\n<p>The galleries of Carr\u00e9 Rive Gauche (an association created in 1977) have always played an advisory role to the major institutions and collectors.
