The Collection Lambert in Avignon organises an important exhibition whose title refers to the incredible story of "Jeanne la Papesse", a legendary figure who, in the ninth Century, acceded to the papacy by hiding her female condition. It is under the aegis of this iconic figure that are selected five women artists, such as priestesses of modern and contemporary art: Camille Claudel, Louise Bourgeois, Kiki Smith, and Sterbak Berlinde of Bruyckere.Louise Bourgeois, Camille Claudel, Berlinde of Bruyckere, Kiki Smith, Sterbak...

In counterpoint to the "Springtime of the Renaissance" exhibition, organized in partnership with the Louvre Museum and the Palazzo Strozzi, the Galerie Sismann is proud to present " Italian Renaissance Sculptures " from 24 September to 8 October 2013.
The layout of the works presented will follow the chronological order of a panorama of Italian sculpture from the early Renaissance to the expiration of its formulas, in other words, the advent of the Baroque Era.
The exhibition will be organized around three major periods and three key themes that will display the driving forces of Italian sculpture and their place in the construction of the collective imagination:
1 Quattrocento and the humanist reflection
During the fifteenth century, ancient culture and cultivated image is expressed through the neo-Platonic exaltation of three ideas: the beautiful, the good and the true. This optimistic philosophy will lead the myth of the Renaissance.
2 Cinquecento and the invention of large models
Elaborating models which set the tone for the rest of Europe, Italian artists of the sixteenth Century, usually aimed at creating a personal style
deriving from imitation of the combination given by earlier models and whose references were the two major pillars of the
Renaissance: Michelangelo and Raphael. The first known for his "terribilita" (his dramatic expressiveness
and grandiose), the other by his "venusta" (his refined and spiritual grace).
3 Mannerism and the strength of illusion
The twists, the sense of drama, sophistication, not to mention eroticism, by the end of the sixteenth Century, artistic expression rejects trivial interpretation, accumulating either excessive or too complex perceptions. It is the triumph of the image depending primarily on the strength of allusion and intellectual spirituality.
